I'm not having any problems at all with Safari and Google. I press Command-Option-f to get to the Google search field, enter my terms and press Return.
When I hear the page load, I press VO-Command-l 3 times to get to the first result. I have web navigation set to Groups mode. I do this endless times throughout the day and have never had a problem.
