Tim and Jeffrey,

I believe I have resolved the password authentication issue in Apple Mail with
the guidance you each provided. I am using an imap account associated with my
former university, which does indeed require SSL . Per your suggestions, I
explored the account preferences and made a simple change under SSL
authentication from Kerberos to simply password. This small change seems to
have resolved the issue. Again, thank you for helping to point me in the right
direction.

  Hi,

Is your iMap account through your ISP or through your employer? I've not
seen iMap like GMail have Kerberos issues. That's not normal behavior. I
agree with Jeffrey's suggestion to take a look in your Account settings within
Mail preferences. Some iMap accounts require SSL which, when configured
appropriately, will fix that sort of issue.

  HTH.

    Hi,
Hmm, you may also try going into Accounts under Preferences and checking
there. I know that every time Mail asks me for a password or something, when I
enter it, it is remembered and I don't have to enter it again.

      Jeffrey,

Thanks for the direction. However, there does not appear to be an option
to discontinue my Kerberos authentication password request by
checking/unchecking an option to do so. This may be a safeguard I will simply
have to come to appreciate/tolerate.

      Thanks!

        Hi,
Just check the box for Mail to remember your password and it won't ask
for user ID/Password anymore.

Each time I connect to Apple Mail I am prompted to enter the password
associated with my imap account/user ID. Normal computing behavior, right?
However, if I wish to enter Apple Mail without having to always enter this
information, is there a way to do so?

Additionally, while on the topic of Apple Mail, is there a way to
identify the sender of a message when reviewing messages in thread mode with
headers turned off?

          Thanks!
