Hi Az,

You can check the battery status  by pressing vo-m twice and then two left 
arrows will get you to the battery status menu.  Alternatively, you can use 
trackpad commander and double tap twice with two fingers near the top and 
locate the desired status menu on the upper right side of the trackpad.
