Hi Mary, I've not used Pages much, but to transfer to your iPad, an easier way is to send a document as an email attachment. Then when you double tap the attachment to open it, navigate to the "Action" button in the top right corner and double tap. Flick right through the menu options. There will be an "Open in" button you can double tap, that will display a list of applications on your iPad that can open that format file. (If the only application you have loaded to open that file type is Pages, you might only find an "Open in Pages" button at the previous step, and won't need to subsequently flick through the list of options to "Open In"). Double tap your selection. You can double tap anywhere on the screen, since your selected "Open in Pages" has focus.
The file will then load into Pages, which you will then be automatically switched into. You may also get warnings if, for example, you attached a Word ".doc" file (e.g., "Document Import Warnings: Pages doesn't support some aspects of the original document" followed by notices of missing fonts and substitutions). iOS4 made a lot of this kind of file importing into apps a lot easier, and that extends to third party apps, too. Also, I've mentioned this before, but it may have been on the viphone list: you can also find free copies of the current user guides for the iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch in the iBooks store. Do a search on Apple, or "iPad User Guide". (This will also bring up their free developer publications.) HTH.
