Scott, 
I too am experiencing similar issues with using iCal. I've tried reinstalling 
iCal from my SnowLeopard disk with no luck. My guess is that there are 
corrupted preference files somewhere that need to be trashed. I've been looking 
for an answer that doesn't involve a reinstallation of OSX, but it doesn't look 
good.
