Hi Dean The question makes you sound confused or maybe I'm confused. There are docks for the iphone that have a keyboard. These kind of make the phone become a flip phone. The ipad and a dock with keyboard is a whole other thing. If you get the apple bluetooth keyboard you can use it with anything that has bluetooth keyboard support. This includes all macs, ipads, iphones, ipod touches, and much more. I love the current apple bluetooth keyboard. It is exactly the same keyboard that is on the mac books but in a small yet very sturdy housing. If you get one of the docks for the iphone 3gs that gives you the fold out keyboard you will need to get a different one or the iphone 4 or the iphone 5. The iphone 5 should be out by July so you may want to pick that up instead of the iphone 4. I recommend the apple bluetooth keyboard. I think you will enjoy typing on it better than any of the other keyboards. The ipad dock, from last year, also has the same keyboard. Haven't seen this years yet. I don't like the dock though. You can't use it on you lap. It's for using on a desk.
