Hi,
Speaking from experience, iChat is accessible, but Adium is preferable. I have 
multiple accounts which iChat doesn't support.  You can configure iChat to 
speak in a similar manner to Adium, but overall for better functionality the 
latter wins hands down.  That being said, I know some people will probably like 
iChat for its video conferencing and voice chat abilities, which as far as I'm 
aware Adium hasn't quite caught up to yet.  There's also the fact that yes, it 
does come with Mac OS, which is nice for convenience reasons.
