If you can still boot from your original install disk put it in and restart. Hold down 'D' which will load the diagnostic tools allowing testing of the hard disk, ram, etc.
NOTE: the disk you want is grey in colour, the retail snow leopard install disc do not come with the diagnostic tools only the original factory discs.
