Ray, Vuscan does now do OCR. I've had great success with it. Ann Robertson posted settings for this in the last few days and I'll post them at the end of this message. :)

1) Select Input;
1.1) Task: Scan to file;
1.2) Source: Your scanner;
1.3) Media: Text;
1.4) Media size: Auto;
1.5) Preview resolution: 300 dpi;
1.6) Scan resolution: 300 dpi;
2) Select Output;
2.1) Default folder: Folder you have created for this purpose;
2.2) Printed size: Scan size;
2.3) TIFF file: unchecked check box;
2.4) JPEG file: unchecked check box;
2.5) PDF file: unchecked check box;
2.6) OCR text file: checked check box;
2.7) OCR text file name: Name for document being scanned;
2.8) OCR text multi page: check or uncheck as needed;
2.9) Raw file: unchecked check box;
3) Select Prefs;
3.1) Language: Choose your language out of the 29 available;
3.2) Font size (pt): 16;
3.3 Crop units: mm;
3.4) Printed units: mm;
3.5 External viewer: unchecked check box;
3.6) External editor: checked check box;
3.7) Editor: TextEdit.

It creates rtf files that you can then open in Text Edit. I'm glad I didn't shell out $299 for Docuscan Plus.

Uh, well, sounds to me like your not running OCR at all. YOu need to run VUScan and then run OCR with Abby Fine reader or some other OcR app and then save through your OcR app. VUScan will not do OCR directly.

Hello there.
I'm trying to use VueScan to see if it's as good as Abbyy when it comes to ocr and that kind of stuff. I have a problem, though. I can't seem to open textedit and see the results of the scanned documents, even though i have chosen to have textedit as external text editor. Do i have to also start textedit before using VueScan or what should i do?
Thanks so much.
