Hi all,
I had promised I'd do a little review of my chill mat. Since this is made
specifically for Macbooks I thought this might be a worthy Mac related topic.
The purpose of this mat is to keep your Mac from getting too warm. In essence
from overheating, according to many Apple forums like macrumors.com, the
Macbooks are not designed to be placed on soft surfaces for example your lap or
the bed. They are not designed the same as laptops, so they can overheat when
this occurs. What do you do if you are like me and want to have your Macbook on
your lap? What if it is not convenient to place your Macbook on a table or hard
surface? You purchase a chill mat. The one I'm referring to is from Targus and
is the Targus US chill mat. This is available at amazon.com for about $34. It
works via the USB port and keeps your Macbook cool by blowing air underneath it
with a fan. This fan as you may already have guessed, is powered by the USB
port. The top of the mat has a grill and rubber stoppers to keep your Macbook
from sliding. There is a USB cord in the back on the unit that is pretty long.
I'm going to post a podcast about the chill mats. If anyone would like further
information, please feel free to contact me. I hope if you are considering
purchasing one of these my review was helpful. I have only had mine a week, but
already feel a difference in my Macbook and the heat that is no longer there.
This I'm attributing to the chill mat. Please note, I have no affiliation with
Targus or their products in any way. Have a great day :)!
