Hi Chris,

"Applespell.service" is the regular spell checker that starts up for text entry
on all web pages, etc. It's a normal service, but what isn't normal is that
it's somehow showing up as a runaway CPU hog. Usually quitting such a process
once in Activity Monitor should fix things. What's more worrisome is that Kari
reports this is a recurrent problem, even after she repaired permissions. My
only other thoughts are that she try the new 10.6.8 update or, if the problems
still occur, apply the 10.6.8 combo update. Repairing permissions usually
works to solve problems, even though it only resets the permissions of Apple's
software to their default appropriate values. This is because many of the
issues are caused by third party software installations that access the default
Mac applications, but might leave them in odd states, locking out permissions
to read or write files by the system or other applications, depending on
circumstances.

The regular software update will update your system based on the receipts that
indicate what applications you have installed on your system. Usually, this
works perfectly fine, but in some instances the regular software update will
miss a dependency. In that case, if you experience problems following a
software update, you can go back and use the larger, combo update. Combo
updates are also usually applied when doing a major version update (e.g. from
10.6.3 to 10.6.8).

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
