That's not a good idea. I dono that I'd try that. Your preferences folder
has lots of system library files in it as well. You stand a good chance of
really! crashing your O S doing that.

For some reason, I always thought one could completely reset all
preferences on a Mac by deleting the preferences folder.
Now keep in mind that I came by this idea back when OS 8 was the big
thing.
So, in no way am I suggesting that you do this but I'm hoping that more
experienced users on the list will either confirm or correct this notion.
I use a program called Superduper to keep a complete clone of all the
particians on my Mac.
