I was told by a rep in the store that I would get an email.  What the rep 
didn't tell me is that I had to go to 
apple.com/macosx/uptodate
Notice the spelling.  Once on this page you will need to fill in a form that 
will ask you for the date you bought your mac, the serial number, and your 
apple ID and password.  ONce you do this, and you meet the qualifications, it 
will display your redemption code, as well as emailing it to you.  As for 
downloading it without installing, just cancel installation once the down load 
is complete, and then go find the proper file and burn it to disk.  I did this
