If you want to go back to SL, you will have to reinstall and you will (I'm quite certain) loose that recovery partition. Of course since you purchased Lion, you could always download it again in the future. It is unfortunate some are having problems, but for me things have been pretty smooth. I expect there to be bugs and Apple is aware and will address them. Despite having testers and Apple Engineers best efforts, there will be issues, and thus the upgrades that follow.
