Hi Anouk,,

Well, the easiest way for me to explain is like this. Garage Band is very
accessible, probably more fun and free, however it is less professional than
Pro Tools, so if you're looking for Album quality, you need Pro Tools.

Pro Tools is also very accessible. I've played with Garage Band but use Pro
Tools 8 myself. If you plan on taking any of your music into a studio or making
a commercial grade Album and you've got the cash, Go with Pro Tools 9.

If you're just getting started or don't have the money to get Pro Tools right
now, or you're not sure if you're going to get into recording with your Mac,
start with Garrage Band and see what you think.

As far as I know you can't use Garage Band instruments with Pro Tools, but Pro
Tools does come with some software instruments such as XPand 2 with are
accessible and quite useable.

The other thing is, Garage Band does come with hundreds of loops which are fun
to play with and they don't work with Pro Tools either. Pro Tools also come
with loops but they're not as comprehensive as Garage Band's

What you will find though is the quality of Pro Tools' affects are great and
they're accessible, so mixing is better in Pro Tools.

OK, that's my take, I would have a play with Garage band and then go with Pro
tools when you're ready to take it to the next level.
