yes, of course. the macbook air is a very light version of a macbook pro. just 
as good as a macbook pro but doesn't have firewire or built in  Cable ethernet. 
no inbuilt CD drive, but in all fairness, they provide software to use a system 
to share it's CD drive. it's a very gorgious laptop and I'd have one any day. I 
use a macbook pro but the reason for that is down to the IT engineering side of 
thigs. the temptation to buy a macbook air is very strong indeed as a 2nd 
machine or note taker. hmmmmmmm.

go for it. you won't regret it.

as regards doing what you want to on it, of course you can. it has USB built in 
so will support USB TV tuner cards (mac compatible), you can use garageband, 
etc to record small projects with as both the line in and USB interfaces are 
enough.
