Last I played with MacFUSE I was unable to get it to work. I was using
it to mount an FTP server to show up as a disk drive for easier
manipulation so maybe it works better for mounting real devices.

Hi Lew.
I went to Google to get the Macfuse program. There is is a caution on
there that says that they are no longer maintaining it and that they
cannot answer any bugs for, as they put it, feline related issues. I
take it that means they are talking about both Lion and Snow Kitty.
Does this mean that these days I would be better not to go ahead and
put it on here, chalk it up to experience, and get myself another of
these cartridges from A.P.H.?

your solution is extremely simple.
what happens is this, if the cartridge is formattted in a normal
windows mode (FAT), OS X will refuse to read it and request disk
utility handles the disk, etc.
there is a plugin from google called macfuse. it's a product freely
available to read 3rd party drives and storage media from different
volume formats.
it's a simple thing of downloading, installing, etc and there you go.
this should help.
OK as regards a panic on your hands, don't panic. the best thing is
to force quit the finder and let it restart if the worst comes to the
worst or a simple system power down by holding the power button on
the mac for about 7 seconds or so. then leave it for about 20 seconds
or so to then reboot again. you'll be fine.
don't panic. it's only a computer at the end of the day. I'll get
shot for that comment. no doubt when I chime into my mac in the
morning it might just blow a raspberry. lol

Hi guys.
This weird thing happened yesterday, and I think I somehow made the
problem worse. Let me explain as best I can and then I have a
question.
I have one of these cartridges that go into the NLS machines, you
know, those ones that come from A.P.H. that you send books from
BARD to. I have done this on the Mac several times with no
problems, except that I know you have to be careful in Lion to
empty the trash at the right time in the process.
Well, I messed it up yesterday. Apparently, forgetting to empty the
trash at the right time and who knows what else. I ended up with
Finder saying busy, busy and refusing to do anything else. I ended
up with the fan refusing to turn itself off, too. I called Apple
Care and got the Mac straightend out; actually, I should have
called them sooner because I was getting frustrated to the point
where I couldn't even do simple things I had been doing forever.
Apple told me to reformat the cartridge in Windows since I told
them that Windows would accept it and read it but the Mac wouldn't.
Now I have a cartridge that Windows will accept, but the Mac does
busy, busy any time I access it. Anybody got any ideas how I could
fix this thing so the Mac will read it?
The thing is that the Mac would not let me eject the cartridge
properly. This not proper ejection is what Apple said caused the
Mac to reject the cartridge. I see that as a problem because I
could not pressed command E or the menu using VoiceOver.
Regards,
Gigi
