Making too much work for yourself.  Under Lion, it's easy.

1.  Go in to your all contacts group.

2.  Locate the contact you wish to add.

3.  Press command+c to copy that contact.

4.  Now, go to the group to which you wish to add the contact.

5.  Now, Press command V to add that contact in to the table of contacts for 
that group.
