Hi Mike and Ricardo,

Yes, there did used to be an app called Noogle Noggles for iOS that was a very
slick implementation of Google Goggles by the people who wrote Delicious
Library. It was experimental, and worked for nearly 6 months from it's release
date in October 2010 till Google changed the search interface, which would have
required a complete rewrite of the app.

I'd suggest using VizWiz on the iPhone for the situations that Mike describes.
The problem with using the oMoby app, which can be used to identify items you
take a picture of, is that you can end up taking a picture of a can, and have
it turn out that the identifying label is turned the wrong way, or that the
item is not well-centered in the picture. With VizWiz, they use both IQ
engines to try to automatically identify the product, as well as
crowd-sourcing, so that you can pass in a question. If your picture was fine,
VizWiz will give you the kind of information that oMoby can provide, but you
can also get a response from a person who can tell you that you need to rotate
your can a quarter turn so they can read the label, or that the item is at the
right edge of the picture, could you please move your iPhone camera further to
the right so that they can identify the item.

Read about the VizWiz app in the January Applevis Hall of Fame list:
http://www.applevis.com/apps/hall-of-fame

"VizWiz
Snap a photo, record a question related to the content of the photo, and get
the answer back from a real person within seconds. It's like having a
sighted-friend at hand 24 hours a day.
Inducted: January 2012"
• VizWiz by ROHCHI (free):
http://itunes.apple.com/us/app/vizwiz/id439686043?mt=8&;

App Description: "VizWiz lets blind users recruit remote sighted workers to
help them with visual problems in nearly real-time. Users take a picture with
their phone, speak a question, and then receive multiple spoken answers."

HTH. Cheers,

Esther
