So far the best way I know to fix your issue is to either trim the song in a
different program like amides pro and then put it into iMovie or you can go to
the inspector on your actual video clip and go to the audio tab.
From there there is an option for ducking where you can lower the
volume of the background music. You can make it pretty quiet but you will still
be able to hear it.
I haven't figured out a way to fade a track at a designated time
however. that is something I hope I can figure out at some point. It would
certainly make life easier.
