Once they re on, and provided speakable objects is on in the accessibility 
dialog, things should work. Once you select this from the table, select the 
settings tab, then vo-right to the two radio buttons and make sure the "on" one 
is checked.
As I said, I followed some suggestions and re-assigned my talk key (second 
tab), then restarted my mac. Everything is working fine now.
