Hmm, really weird. Without visually me seeing your screen, with what very little vision I have, it's gonna be hard to know, but one thing you could try, is go to the menu bar in Mail, then go over to the window menu, and activate the zoom option. Then try it.
If that doesn't work, go back to the zoom option in the window menu. I'm just trying to think what may cause this. That's about the only thing I can mustard right now.
