Wait, just a second here.  I was under the impression that all one had to do to 
reply directly to the sender was to interact with the message headers group, 
then, focus on the sender, VO=left arrow once, then, open the short cut menu 
and choose e-mail from that menu.  Always has worked for me.  Note, the option 
to "reply to sender" has apparently been renamed, "e-mail" but, still the same 
thing.
