Thank you esther,

I've read the guide and read through the various apple documentation. My question is whether the mouse is "absolutely" necessary to the install - e.g. you can't complete the install of windows7 without using a mouse at some point where the keyboard won't suffice.

Or, if there is the assumption that everyone uses a mouse, and that you'll have to use a wired mouse if indeed the assumption is true (which we all know, as blind people, that a mouse is at best minimally useful, and that most everything can be done with a keyboard that could be done with a mouse)

PHEW!

I hope I finally made this clear. I never use a mouse if I can avoid it, and I'm just wondering if those of us who have installed bootcamp windows found it absolutely necessary to the install process to move and press a mouse button at some point. Otr, if they managed just fine with the keyboard alone.

I think I know the answer (the mouse is not necessary), but I want to be sure.

Hi Phil,

I've never done anything with Boot Camp, but a search of Apple's own
documentation pulls up the following (with source locations so you can
check this yourself):
Source: Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide
http://manuals.info.apple.com/en/boot_camp_install-setup.pdf
<begin quote>
Under "What you need" section
A USB keyboard and mouse, or a built-in keyboard and trackpad
<end quote>
Also, the Apple Knowledge base has an entry,
"Boot Camp 4.0, OS X Lion and Mountain Lion: Frequently asked
questions"
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4818

One of the questions is about why using a wireless mouse doesn't work
with the installation, and the answer is that there are not wireless
mouse drivers in this version of Boot Camp, so you have to use a USB
mouse. I suspect the "built-in" keyboard and trackpad alternatives
refer to laptops. My reading of this is that you need to use a USB
mouse to do your setup. On the other hand, I've never done this
installation myself.

HTH. Cheers,

Esther

Great, but do you need a mouse to install windows7 in bootcamp? That's all I want to know, is a mouse necessary? Can the installation be done by keyboard alone?

Please anser this one question.
