Well, I have just 2gb ram. With mail, safari, and a couple other apps running, my ram is full (if I'm reading things right). If I switch to an application I haven't used in a while, even if it's open, it takes a few seconds before that application is ready to use. I suspect this is the mac storing that app's information on the hard drive, then loading it back up when I focus on it, because I have too little ram to hold everything. So, long story short: I fill 2gb ram easily and wish I had more, so your using 2gb is not surprising. Just be very glad you have all that extra space left.
