Well, mine maxes out two with just a few apps, so using almost 2 sounds about right to me. OSX does a lot more graphical stuff than Windows, even if you can't see it, plus it runs a lot more services you don't see (iCloud syncing, detection of attached iOS devices, and other listneers) which Windows does not.
