Hi. As others may have said, performing a clean install might be the better 
option. But from personal experience doing two upgrades, upgrading first from 
Snow Leopard to Lion and then from Lion to Mountain Lion, my system hasn't been 
acting weird or anything. So if you don't want to go through the steps of 
performing a clean install, an upgrade will suffice.
