Actually, it may not be that big a mess in iTunes but it depends on what is in the other fields. If you go ahead and import them into the iTunes library and then select all of them and do a cmd-i on them, you can change the composer on all of them at once if the composer is the same for all of them. Once you do that, iTunes will reorganize them appropriately. But if you are going to have trouble finding and selecting them all at once, you may be right about it being a mess.
