Hi,

Here's a quick overview of how I got my tapes into iTunes. I should say it is
an on-going process as we speak.

I am no expert about setting levels etc so I will not go into details. I have a
tape recorder with line out and I connected it in mic port of my mac mini mid
2010. My husband checked levels to not go into red and adjusted recording
level. In fact here I am a bit confused about finding the best way of doing
this between recording level and master track volume , etc. Any good pointers
about setting this optimally will be appreciated.

1. I open project and select real instrument track.
2.I changed lcd display to time rather than seconds.
3. I used head-phones with monitor on option in track info group so I could
hear what I am doing. If you know your tape you could just put monitor off and
leave it going and be sure you are there to stop.
4. If it is a music track you could listen as it is recording and stop and
re-start recording between tracks. This will create regions on the track.
5. The challenge is how to import this to iTunes so each region is a track.
5.1 In arrange layout area, interact with time line group and finally with
instrument track scroll area and select the region you want to import as a
track.
5.2 Note start and end time. I always work with the first one so start time is
0:0:0.
5.3 Press c to turn on cycle region.
5.4 In timeline group interact with multiple indicators ruler timeline (it is
the first item).
5.5 Here the last item should be a cycle layout item or something of the sort.
YOu have to resize it by pressing VO shift command accent and make sure start
and end match those of your region for the track. No need to be super precise
with milliseconds since we are talking about blank space between songs.
5.6 Press escape when done resizing.
6. Finally with the desired region selected go to share menu and import song
to iTunes. It will only bring in the cycled region.
7. (Optional) Personally I find I like to delete the region from the project
once it is safely in iTunes to avoid confusion. SO I select the region and
press control delete this moves the other region back to fill space. So for ex
region 2 will now be moved to beginning of song.
8. repeat steps 5.x for subsequent regions.
I know, not very easy I guess that's where Amadeus might make things easier. If
anyone knows how to auto split track detecting silence in garageband it would
be cool.
Hope this helps someone.

Best,

Ioana
