Hi there!
OK when your interacting with the message table and you get to the message you 
wish to read!
Do a 2 finger flick left to stop interacting and then do a 1 flick right past 
the vertical splitter into the message area and do a 2 finger flick right to 
interact with the message text!
no need to turn off commander or use a custom command!
and just stop interacting  and 1 finger flick back to the message table and 
look for another message you want!

PS while looking through the commander menus I saw that there are some presets!
Like control+rotate clockwise is increases the rate and anti clockwise 
decreases the rate!
If you use the option key with both clockwise moves that changes the pitch!
And with the command key that does the volume!
