The ssd offered by Apple is only 256. No 512GB for the Mini. At least, I didn't 
see it yesterday when I was looking. I'm sure it would be big bucks. The 256gb 
one is 300 bucks more than the stock configuration which is a 1500-gb or -tb, 
forget which,  5400rpm conventional drive. I like the sound of the fusion 
drive; seems to make a lot of sense but not sure how it would play out with a 
system running a vm and Windows.

Lots of good food for thought in the responses here.
