I've been noticing that a lot myself. I use the mobile site, and even now have a lot of trouble searching and the like, and even more trouble with the IPhone app. I can search for someone using the IPhone app, but when I find someone, it won't tell me if they have any mutual friends, just shows the person's name, then a link to conferm then, which is a huge inconvenience for me, considering the fact that "Amanda Smith," is a really comon name, for example, just to throw a name out there.
