As far as I'm aware, an application will not be recorded unless you specifically choose it. As for recording system audio without VO, I'm not sure if that's possible, as I haven't done it. I mostly record radio programs, so I use application sources. You can specify several of them in one session, but unless you choose VO, it won't be recorded, as far as I'm aware.
