in system preferences, under "security and Privacy", select the privacy tab
and then the advanced button.
You may need to "click the lock to make changes" before the advanced button
is accessible. When you click that button (or check the checkbox, either
will work) , you'll be prompted for your AppleID password. just type it in
and press enter and the system will unlock and let you make changes.
Once in the advanced section, check the checkbox for "disable remote control
infrared reciever", then press the okay button.
finally relock and you're done. Now the remote control won't affect your
Mac when you're trying to control the AppleTV. I had that same problem and,
although somewhat amusing, it is a pain in the A$$ after a while.

Hi folks. I have a strange situation I'd like help with. I have an apple tv,
and a mac computer. For some strange reason, when I try to control my apple
tv with its remote, the remote wants to also control certain aspects of my
mac. What on my mac, can I turn off or disable, to keep this from happening?
