2 things. Firstly, it isn't your apple ID password but rather your mac system 
password so unless their the same, make sure you put in the right one.  
Secondly, There is a way to lock the remote to specific devices. You can lock 
it to the apple tv instead of turning off remote functionality on the mac. 
Personally, I like to be able to use the remote on the mac at times.

I don't remember the 2 button command on the remote but google it and it should 
show up. From memory David Woodbridge did a podcast on or at least including 
this information.
