Hi Nick, To stop the occasional announcement of time and such in the middle of calls, I've started simply turning VO speech off with a three finger double-tap. I can still use the VO gestures then and use the two finger double-tap to hang up the call and use the three finger double-tap to turn speech back on. Maybe a little quicker than what you've been putting up with. The main drawback with this method is that speech is off so if I have an incoming call while on the other call, I have no idea who it is. Not a big deal in many situations as then I don't interrupt the initial call which has its own benefits.
I'm not sure why VO starts doing this announcing thing but it usually only happens to me when on speaker phone and occasionally when using me headphones for the call. Later...
