Thanks to both of you for the suggestions. No, vo is not set to read 
characters, but so long as I stay focused on the area where the calculation is 
entered, things seem to read okay. The answer also reads out, again only while 
I am on that calculation area (which was my problem before - I was moving 
around). My only question now is: can I erase the last character entered, such 
as if I type 22 but wanted 23, or do I have to clear everything and start over?
