I never considered that approach, thanks for the idea. I like the idea of the 
gmail site controlling everything simply because it is the "hub", so if my Mac 
is not on for a while or I switch machines my rules remain in place. Still, 
your suggestion does have advantages, namely easier setup and no limit on how 
many email addresses can be added to a rule (I presume). I guess it comes down 
to what works best for each person, though it would be easier if the Mail app 
would use iCloud to sync rules, preferences, signatures, and so forth.
