Not necessarily, Mike. I one time lost speech when I was still fairly new to 
the iPhone. I connected it to the computer, found out that voiceOver was 
enabled, I performed a rest, all to no avail. It turned out that I needed to 
upgrade to the latest version of IOS, which I didn't know you could do on the 
iPhone.
