Hi,

The only times I've seen this one myself was when there was problems with 
connections to the Internet.  My WIFI signal was good but the router's 
connection to the Internet was experiencing intermittent issues.  In a case 
like this, the message probably will eventually make its way into the Trash but 
it will depend on if it's gaining connectivity for moments at a time.  This 
normally wouldn't be happening both in WIFI and LTE though so it may not 
necessarily be your situation.  Deleting and re-adding your GMail on the iPhone 
shouldn't be an issue though, especially since you're using iMap.  With iMap, 
you should not lose any of your messages nor any other folders and such that 
you may have created.

That's the best I can come up with at this point.
