Me too. Option-cmd-l opens downloads; option-m, if you enabled the keyboard 
commander, opens mail; option with most characters types an alternate 
character, like option-8 for a bullet. So, check the physical key on your 
keyboard and be sure it is working correctly. If it is not a Macbook, you might 
want to replace the keyboard.
