HI Alex,
Apple Mail works really well with multiple accounts. You don't have to add any
extra filters or smart mailboxes. I'll try and answer your questions below but
let me know if there's any other info you'd like. Also, I'd highly recommend
Take Control of Apple Mail which has answers to all these kinds of questions
and more.
• You will get a whole bunch of extra folders/mailboxes for your
new account.
• These extra folders/mailboxes will consist of two types: those
which can be called special mailboxes and just regular mailboxes.
• Special mailboxes are inbox, sent, drafts, trash, junk,
archive, etcetera.
• Regular mailboxes are those folders/labels/mailboxes you create
yourself.
• For all special mailboxes, Mail creates special combined
folders at the top of your mailbox list table.
• When collapsed, you can view these mailboxes in a combined
view. So, you can see, for instance, all the messages in both your inboxes in
the one table, regardless of which account they are in.
• When expanded, you can see the individual account's special
mailbox. So, for instance, you can just view the messages in the inbox of one
particular account.
• Regular mailboxes are just listed separately at the bottom of
your mailbox list table, but they are nested below the name of the account to
which they are attached.
• I use the favourites bar and related keystrokes to quickly move
between inboxes of my various accounts.
• When replying, Mail will send the email from the account to
which the original email was sent. However, you can manually change this for
each reply if you wish.
