Hi Ray,

Go check through the AppleScripts for iTunes web site that Doug Adams
maintains. You'll certainly be able to find something that will do what you
want -- the only question is what the most appropriate one to try would be. I
did a Google search on "dougscripts track numbers", and it looks like a script
named "Increment Number Tags" might do what you want. Here's the current
short link to the web page for this AppleScript:
http://dougscripts.com/497
I'm not at my Mac, so I can't give you exact downloading directions based on
the page layout in your browser, but there will be links for both downloading
the script, and for a PDF read me with more details about usage, that is also
includes in the download, but which you can independently view in your browser.
(On my iPhone ithat link is labeled "See docs PDF".)

There's information on "How to Download and Install" on the same page (heading
level 3), and again, I can't display this on my iPhone, since it's not a device
that can download and install the AppleScript. But you basically copy the
downloaded AppleScript to your account's "Library/iTunes/Scripts" folder. If
this is the first time you're using an AppleScript in iTunes, you'll first have
to create the Scripts folder to place it in. Then, any AppleScripts that are in
that folder will show up in a new Scripts menu on on the iTunes menu bar, just
before the "Help". Use the scripts like any other menu command: e.g., select
the group of tracks you want want to use the script on in your iTunes library,
then Control+F8 or VO+M to the menu bar, VO+Left Arriw or Left Arrow twice to
the Scripts menu, and arrow down to select the script you want (e.g.,
"Increment Number Tags"). Then fill in any of the selections in the dialog
window that comes up according to the Read Me instructions that came with the
AppleScript.

If you're not sure how this will work out, I'd make copies of some tracks that
you try out with this script for testing purposes.

Doug's AppleScripts for iTunes are donation ware - free to try, but with the
suggestion that you make a donation to help support their development if you
find it useful. I haven't visited the site much since Gatekeeper was
implemented, but we used to use a lot of his AppleScripts back when iTunes was
transitioning in accessibility, and also because he would implement
AppleScripts for useful features for iTunes that he thought should be included
by default. Since Doug is is a really good programmer, I used to look through
the way he wrote his code to learn how to make better AppleScripts, but I think
you can't do that any more now that Gatekeeper compliant downloads are in
effect.

HTH. Tim Kilburn and others may also be able to assist you with the
AppleScript for iTunes usage, and you can also do a search of the Mail Archive
site for the macvisionaries list for my older posts.

Cheers,

Esther
