Just another thought!
You mention using time!
Are you using the keyboard commander shortcut [I.E. one of the option keys with 
T]
And if so when you set up keyboard commander under the general heading did you 
check the [allow voiceover to be controlled by applescript] option!
Checking that makes the command [Option+T] work properly!
