I now have a partial answer to my own question, which I will write here as it
might benefit others and might help me remember for next time too. :) However,
if anyone else has any other tips please still let me know.

I tried viewing my Library in Google Chrome. I was able to interact with the
table which displays my audiobooks and by using VO-SHIFT-SPACE ensure that
parts were shown for the book I was trying to download. I was then able to tab
to the various parts of the audiobooks, and following each part the download
link. When on the download link, the VoiceOver curser would announce that
"blank" was in the VoiceOver curser, and "blank" was under the mouse, however
the download link would be in the keyboard curser. I was unable to move the
VoiceOver curser to the keyboard curser with VO-SHIFT-F4. Pressing space didn't
seem to activate the download link, however, pressing return brought up a save
dialog box and I was able to save the files and they then proceeded to download.

So, to summarise the exact steps:
• Launch Google Chrome and navigate to your Audible Library;
• Navigate to the table with your audiobooks and interact with it;
• Navigate by link to the audiobook you wish to download, continue navigating
by link past all the 1 star 2 star etcetera rating links until you get to the
"Write a review" link;
• Tab to the file you wish to download, and then tab once more to the download
link;
• Press return to open the save dialog box, and save it wherever you like. The
download should begin.

Best,
Nic
