Airplay, no. However, there is a feature that lets you mirror your screen 
(which is, to my understanding, different from Airplay but uses the same 
technology). I don't know the specifics as I can't see well enough to use it 
all, and don't have an iPad or Apple TV. Google will, I'm sure, have plenty to 
say on the subject. Besides, if she can't use the Apple TV, it'll make someone 
else a really great birthday present, and she can switch to a wired solution 
for $30 or $40. An expensive adapter, to be sure, but that's Apple for you. :)
