No not long winded but helpful. Thanks for explaining. The strange thing is I 
couldn't get VO back slash to expand the messages in a thread but in the same 
place the right arrow did the trick, will have to play around with this, as I 
definitely now see some major benefits to using this view for mail with 
threading instead of the classic view. Thanks again
