Did you use iwpriv on wifi0? If so, that's normal. You need to create ath0
first (using wlanconfig) and use all the wireless tools on that interface
instead. See also: http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs section "Creating
interfaces in madwifi-ng".

description of the steps you went through when you saw this problem.
