Comment (by tim):

 Hello,

I've been running into the same problem with my Fujitsu S2110 amd64 laptop
which is running Gentoo. I tried adding a printk() to the
STAILQ_REMOVE_HEAD macro. I was printing out the address of the head
variable, hoping to catch the NULL pointer dereference, but I never saw a
NULL in the logs. Either the printk isn't syncing to disk quickly enough,
or I'm looking at the wrong variable.

Interestingly, when I added the printk, the driver became slightly more
stable. Small downloads that were consistently hanging my box no longer
did. Trying to download a large file (30Meg) instantly hangs it though.
This makes me think it may have something to do with a send queue getting
empty or something, and the printk's slow down the driver enough to keep
that queue more full. Just idle speculation though. Wish I had more
 kernel debugging skills...
