New description:
I am running the latest Fedora Core 4 kernel and the latest madwifi
drivers. The drivers compile and install with no problem, but a wlan0 or
wifi0 or ath0 device is never created. (Thus I cannot use wlanconfig for
the remainder of the install)
Running cardctl shows a valid pcmcia card present:
{{{
Socket 0:
3.3V CardBus card
function 0: [ready]
}}}
And an lspvi -v shows:
{{{
02:00.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications, Inc. AR5212 802.11abg
NIC (rev 01)
Subsystem: PROXIM Inc: Unknown device 0a40
Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 10
Memory at 34000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K]
Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2
}}}
Notice that it's being detected as an abg card, when the 8470 WD is only a
bg card.
Anyone have any ideas??
Comment (by mrenzmann):
What version of MadWifi are you using, madwifi-old or madwifi-ng?
Make sure that MadWifi gets loaded on insertion of your card. If it is and
there is still no ''wifi0''/''ath0'' interface available: check the output
of the dmesg command and look out for error messages from MadWifi. If you
find something post it here.
Notice that it's being detected as an abg card, when the 8470 WD is only
a bg card.
That might be caused either by wrong information in the device database
that lspci uses, or by the fact that the PCI ID is shared with an a/b/g
card from Proxim. Either way it doesn't hurt, since it does not affect
MadWifi.
